As the viewer peers at this work through a microscope, the dedicated software takes the process of generating space as a model and visualizes it on a liquid crystal display the size of a fingernail. Countless objects keep emerging and disappearing to create …dots, lines, planes, solids, and supersolids… .
With algorithmic installations and live performances, Goh Uozumi has advocated the thought of using one’s behavior as an interface, and tries to reconsider creativity and achieve augmentation of reality in the networking age. For Uozumi, each autonomous element of computer programs, devices and even participants are inhomogeneous subjects, and he incorporates their relationships into his works. He thus captures existing body, space, time as well as historical contexts in expressions of art as environmental information, not as the object to rely on, and constructs flexible systems.
His main exhibitions include “OBSERVER N” that crosses all dimensions for observation (2012, Solo, YCAM: The Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media), “F” that goes across void and perception (2010, Solo, ASK?P).
The Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media (YCAM) was established in November 2003 as a cultural-arts complex that accommodates a hall for stage performances, an exhibition space, a mini film theatre, and the Yamaguchi City Library. A platform for sharing computer- and IT-based media technology, YCAM hosts among others a variety of theatre and dance performances, art exhibitions, film screenings, sound-related events, workshops and lectures.Exhibition : http://www.ycam.jp/en/...
YCAM distinguishes itself through being not only a venue for presentations of existing outstanding works, but also a studio in which new, original artworks are produced and unveiled in front of the public. All kinds of artists stay in Yamaguchi, where in collaboration with YCAM's expert staff they explore the possibilities of creative work. Many of the artworks created at the "YCAM InterLab", the Center's section for artistic production, have been highly valued not only here in Japan, and received countless invitations to be part of exhibitions and performing art events in cities around the globe.
